Jura 2018 Day 2.

Day 2   Loch Tarbert, West Coast to Bag Uamh nan Giall

Paddling out of Loch Tarbert, we were watched from the rocks by a herd of Jura's wild goats

And off up the west coast of Jura with the Atlantic swell breaking on the shore

Spectacular rugged landscape with raised beaches, caves and waterfalls and just enough landing spots to be comfortable.

This pebble beach was littered with hundreds of lobster-pots.

Glengarrisdale Bay, with Maclean's Skull Cave and Glengarrisdale Bothy.

"The rock behind the bothy was once the site of a castle of Clan Maclean; a chief 'Maclaine of Lochbuie' was slain here with his followers in an encounter with the Campbells of Craignish, and his excavated skull sat under an overhang just beyond the bothy for several centuries before disappearing in the 1970s"

We set up camp in the bay about 2 K south of the tip of Juara, BaghUamh nan Giall, an excellent spot with a fairly easy carry to get the boats out off the beach and clear of the incoming tide, just enough driftwood to get a fire going and fresh water an easy walk away.
