Tayvallich, May 2019

Camping (or Glamping...) weekend at Tayvallich.

Saturday

16 of us left Carsaig Bay at 10.30 to catch the south flow in the Sound of Jura which carried us down in bright sunshine and, with a gradually increasing following wind, we made good time down towards Island of Danna where we stopped to enjoy lunch with views across to Jura and the MacCormaig Isles.

After a leisurely lunch stop we rounded the southern tip of Danna and headed back north up Loch Sween towards Tayvallich.
A quick head count only had 14 in view so I waited for the stragglers and, joined by Ali who had made a beach clean stop to pick up some rubbish, we made our way against a stiff head-wind and a dropping tide into Linne Muirich. On the way out we stopped of at the "pig-house" where we found a blue brittle star in among teh more normal black brittle stars.

Loch Sween has a "double hump" tidal pattern with the tide rising, falling slightly then rising again, often with the second high tide being slightly higher than the first.

On Sunday we had a nice easy paddle up to the Fairy Isles with sightings of the Osprey and more brittle stars.  A quick second breakfast was had at the inlet to Loch Craiglin and it's bluebell woods.  We followed the loch up and round, paddling back into a fairly fresh breeze which was a good  excuse to try a bit of supported towing.
